We fell asleep in the hammock the other night anchored off Galiano island. Emmanuel strung it between the staysail halyard and the mast. I made popcorn and we snuggled together and watched the stars come out. It was like watching a movie, popcorn and everything. A movie that we would highly recommend if you are looking for something to watch.
We haven’t ‘relaxed’ much so far, we are both very social creatures, but there were a couple days in Montague Harbour where we started to try out relaxing. I think it can suit us.
We stayed three nights in Montague Harbour – the reason to be on Galiano was to connect and celebrate my friend Kate’s birthday, and after that, we didn’t seem to feel inclined to leave. We had an amazing potluck and fire along the ocean with friends. The next day we walked around part of the island and discovered some beautiful white shell beaches, small caves that have been eroded over the years and found sea asparagus to add to our dinner.
One of the days we didn’t even leave the boat, we hung artwork, swam, read and began our studies on how to relax!
From Galiano, we headed to Prevost Island for a night and hopped over to Salt Spring. We connected with our friend Rosie who gave us the locals tour of the island, to a lake for a fresh water rinse, a commune-style community, local cafe with amazing pizza and popsicles. We went back to Leela for dinner and as we were rowing our friends back to shore later that night we saw phosphorescence, which ignites wonder and glee every time. Rosie and Sarah had never seen this ocean magic. The only thing better than seeing phosphorescence is being with someone who is seeing it for the first time. It inspires awe and reminds us again of the beauty and magic happening if you happen to forget for a moment that the ocean is sparkling.
What a wonderful start to your voyage…… ps. it’s not too difficult to study the art of relaxing. From your current level, you are rapidly approaching’ post-grad’ status
