We’re only 2 weeks away from the boat going in dry storage for the final 2 months of the refit! Some of our waterproofing projects require a dry dock and that’s impossible to achieve with the boat being outside in the Pacific Northwest. And of course, they don’t have covered storage tall enough to handle our boat with a 50′ mast, at least not where we have Leela on the hard.
In order to remove the mast all associated rigging, boom, sails, etc., have to come off. Funny, we both thought this was such a big deal that we were willing to hire a professional rigger to help us. Once again Peter came to our rescue with a series of detailed step by step emails. It was supposed to rain all weekend long and luckily we had a small break in the weather that allowed us to remove the Yankee, Mainsail and boom and tidy everything up into a nifty large burrito looking package wrapped in a tarp to protect against the elements.
I was able to remove all of the electrical wirings to the mast as well. Leela will now sit “almost” ready for her mast removal for the next 2 weeks as we are taking next weekend off boat projects to go skiing and paragliding at Revelstoke Mountain (Emmanuel) and cherish time with friends and family (Saxony)! When we get back will begin the final sustained push prior to our June 1st departure. I am happy to report we are more or less on schedule (according to our Excel spreadsheet anyways).
Oh.. p.s. our diesel tank leaks. That’s a MAJOR project that will involve cutting out the existing and replacing with a new custom fabricated aluminum tank. Ouch.
