Shift

It’s easy to lose sight of the end goal when deep in the middle of a major boat project. Or maybe it’s the time of year, and the way it affects my psyche. It’s been raining really hard here in Vancouver. The days are still short. Dark, grey, cold, wet, that pretty much sums up the last few months.

But this weekend we finally completed the cleaning of the bilge. Many of the larger projects we started on months ago are starting to take shape. Loose threads of disparate knowledge learned over the past six months from books, web articles and blogs are all starting to connect and make some sort of sense. What was once such a large and unknown undertaking is slowly appearing whole and understood, not unlike the shape of a ship appearing out of the fog.

This weekend was spent working on various boat projects in the workshop at the COOP. These moments are fun. We are working together on a common dream, and this dream is getting closer and more tangible by the week. We went for a walk along the ocean, my first in a long time. Seeing the calm surface, the lapping waves on the shore, I was reminded that in no time at all we will be moving aboard our beautiful ship, Leela. And we will be completely free to explore, sail, relax and flow with the rhythms of nature. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain, but something shifted. I feel very lucky to be on this journey with Saxony.

Jealous here. Our baby is still so far away. We will start inching our way up the coast this weekend. Maybe you want to take a break and come sail Leela’s sister Carmella up the coast with us 😉 we need more hands.

Christine, believe me, would love to! But current work requirements make it impossible for us to take any time off. In one week I am telling my work partners I am leaving and that will create all kinds of havoc.
One day at a time is what I have been learning with this project. What at once seemed so complex, long, and scary is starting to take shape, one little project at a time. Please email us some more pics of Carmella! Would love to get to know you guys and your boat better. 🙂
